Sunshine In Seattle | Seattle Family Photographer

Still catching up on blogging my Seattle fall family sessions. But, I just feel like I have so many stories to share so I plan to blog them all even if it takes me until this fall. :)

Most of my clients come from word of mouth but this mama found me on Pinterest. I find that so interesting. We met on a sunny fall evening, however it was a bit chilly. Like many of my family photography sessions, we wandered through the park finding beautiful light and lots of fun. Seattle has some of the most gorgeous locations in the world. And guess what? The sun shines here a lot! I never make families do anything but be with each other. I love finding the unique beauty in every family. These three children were some of the most respectful, well behaved children. I could just feel how close these siblings were. The whole family was quiet and peaceful. Their love for each other was so apparent. When the little one got cold, everyone joined in to snuggle her and make her feel comfortable. It was really cute. I loved how dad looked at his family with love and pride. I have a special place in my heart for mother and child images. I feel like even if the mother isn’t a professional photographer, she is typically the photographer of the family. I like to get as many images as I can just being her with her babies.

I always take a lot of photos and I never apologize for that. My images weave a story, a memory. A memory of our time together and this time in their life. I am not after that mantel piece, but rather a collection of images that speak to your family. So, here are a bunch of my favorites from their gallery. If you stop by here, please comment and let me know.

Big Family Love | Seattle Family Photographer

I have a special place in my heart for big families and photographing them is even better. I grew up in a family of six, I am the youngest, so I feel right at home when I am around big families. There is a certain energy and air of protectiveness that is present in big families and it makes me feel rigt at home.

I know this family from our wonderful school in Wallingford. Our boys are in the same grade and the mama and I are both fairly involved in the school. Who am I kidding, we are really involved! Anyway... I hope she won't mind me sharing but I wanted to share a bit about what she said to me when talking about booking a session. She said "I have seen the families on your website and we don't look like them." I get what she means. I have a hard time thinking about my family being photographed by another photographer too. But that is the thing about choosing a photographer...they should be able to turn your family into their art. What she didn't realize and what many don't realize, is a great deal of my work is based on connection. It is based on me finding the unique beauty that I promise is present in every family. It isn't about me making you look like something you aren't, it's about me showing you that you are in fact just like every family on my website. You are so beautiful and magnificent in your own way. Each family has their own story and I want to tell it. I want to make it into my art. It's what I thrive on. Lifestyle family photography allows me the freedom to be an artist, to express myself, and to show you that all your imperfections are in fact what make you perfect. So, you can imagine my delight when she was pleasantly surprised with her gallery. As you can see, they are in fact like those people on my website, and they shine as bright and beautiful.

The Beauty Of Pregnancy | Maternity Photography Seattle

Still catching up from 2015, but better late than never right? This mama and I were introduced through a mutual friend who moved to Seattle from New Mexico about the same time as me. So, we are both from New Mexico living in Seattle and we are both Seattle photographers and we are both nurses!! Neonatal to be exact. So as you can see we have a lot in common. I have had the pleasure of capturing her sweet family many times, even when I really had no idea what I was doing with my camera. But, as you can see, they are absolutely gorgeous and make my job pretty effortless.

We met on a somewhat temperamental day in August. The sky was full of moody clouds and there wasn't very much sun. But, the sun broke out just at the end at was absolutely magical. But what really stole the show was their love and connection. They played, the snuggled, and they exuded joy. I love how much they laughed together when we talked about how much different life was about to be.

Their baby is six months old now and a girl. I am so thrilled they have these memories of their family right before it changed.

Enjoy this beautiful family. May they bring a little sunshine to your Monday.

Lorna | Newborn Photography Seattle

This is going to be a first for me. I have never only shared black and white images but for some reason this session speaks louder to me in black and white. While I give every family both color and black and white versions of their images, sometimes the black and white hold more emotion. Being a newborn photographer in Seattle, I have to be able to embrace low and moody light. I have found that this type of light really adds to the deep emotion that is present during the newborn  stage in a family's life. There are so many emotions  present when you have a newborn at home. There is excitement and promise but there is also exhaustion and even a bit of sadness. What I want the families who choose me to photograph them to remember is that it is all beautiful in all of its imperfections. I want them to remember what it felt like to hold that tiny baby in their arms and nuzzle into their soft head. I want them to be reminded of a time that they will never be able to get back however life changing it was. A time that will all seem like a dream in a few years time. I want them to look at their images and feel all of the emotions that they felt when they had their newborn in their arms whether they were good or bad. Life is fleeting and  and you will never understand just how fast everything goes until you have a child.

Baby Lorna, you are so loved.
